Alasdair Gray's 'Lanark', published in 1981 after being 25 years in the writing, marked an epochal moment in the development of fiction in this country and is a landmark of Scottish, and indeed world, literature. Gray studied at Glasgow School of Art in the 1950s and painting, drawing and typography have always been an important part of his output.
'From an Eastern Empire', which can currently be seen at The Henderson Gallery as part of their Christmas Exhibition 'Wise Men & Angels', is being offered by way of an online silent auction, with all proceeds going to the new pyjamas campaign.
Bids can be left at www.hendersonsofedinburgh.co.uk, and will be accepted until 12 noon on Saturday 9th January, 2010.
The new pyjamas campaign is dedicated to raising money for Scotland's new Sick Kids Hospital, to be built in Edinburgh in 2013, to make it the best it can be. To find out more about the campaign please go to www.newpyjamas.org
